any interesting happenings on TV these days?
Hi Everyone,

All my schoolwork is making me get behind in watching TV *sighs*

Please leave me a message and let me know about any queer characters/storylines you're seeing on TV these days that you find particularly noteworthy or interesting.

Skins! It's on tv in the UK only right now (though BBCAmerica is running the first two seasons I think), but they've got a completely wonderful storyline about two teenage girls, Emily and Naomi. developing a relationship. I don't think I can do it justice just talking about it. Go check it out!

OH! Is that series three? I have access to it online (through a friend) I'll have to see if she can send it too me.

I was wondering if they were going to have any gay characters. This time around. I absoultely adored Maxxie from S1-S2.

Yep, S3! Emily is gay and comes out quite easily/quickly. Naomi's journey is a little more tumultuous. But it's all drama-filled and just awesome. :)

very cool. I was wondering, would you mind writing and posting a summary of the characters and their emeriging relationship along with your thoughts how how they're represented as lesbian teens?

My hope is that more people will be inclined to make their own posts on this sites rather than merely commenting on mine.

Any help you could provide in keeping this community going would be greatly appreciated.

Sure, I'd love to! Like a little intro to S3 and those two? I can definitely do that. Anything specific you'd like me to include?
bayamiodbayamiod on April 7th, 2009 06:34 pm (UTC)
awesome! yeah a little plot summary and info on the character's storylines would be great. Also if you could add your opinions on how their representation as queer characters is the similar and/or different to other gay/lebsian characters on TV.

Thanks so much for your help. (oh and feel free to let your flist know about this community.)

geeky stuff
It's just been announced that the latest Stargate spinoff airing this autumn is finally, finally going to include queer characters. No further details yet, but I'm excited.

And a gay-inclusive Star Trek episode that was written two decades ago (and then shelved) was picked up by a semi-professional fan series that you can download for free. http://www.startreknewvoyages.com/episode_baf01.html

There's a four minute scene made (in part) deliberately to make the straight fanboys as uncomfortable as possible, and reclaim the genre a bit.

Have you heard of the lovely boys of 'Verbotene Liebe'??
bayamiodbayamiod on April 7th, 2009 06:15 pm (UTC)
ah yes. Christian and Ollie. I've enjoyed the fanvids posted on youtube though i've never seen the show.

What's going on with their story these days?

Not much - there's just this sideline cuteness here and there.. Like Olli thinking Christian's brother should be persistent with this chick he likes because he was persistent with Christian and it paid off etc etc

Guiding Light - Olivia/Natalia. It's addictive!

You can find tons of clips here if you're not watching it already:

OH! I'd not heard of them. Would you mind doing a post to this community introducing the characters and their storyline? I'm trying to get more posting involvment from community members rather than having people just comment on my posts.

Sure. I would love too! It's a great storyline and I'd love for more people to be watching. I'll get a post together and post it today or tomorrow.

Being Erica had a girl/girl storyline for one episode. Erica went back to change the experience she had with another woman. Although she conceded that she was ultimately straight (or whatever), it was rather tastefully done. She acknowledged that she had a crush on the woman, and there was a hot make-out scene. ;)

Interesting. I don't know the show Being Erica.

It's Canadian, so that doesn't surprise me. It's on Soapnet now if you're ever interested. I highly recommend it!

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet, my favorite is the Kevin/Scotty storyline on the show Brothers & Sisters. If I remember correctly, they had one of the first (if not the first, though I hesitate to say that), on-screen gay weddings (it's technically only a commitment ceremony, and while most of the time they say they're married, Kevin will occasionally point out they're not legally married). Kevin is from a family of five children, and his marriage is the most successful one not only of his siblings (okay, one sibling has never been married), but also his parents and Scotty's parents.

Kevin's a bit of an ass, but he's a lovable ass. No matter how much he screws up, you can always see he had good intentions. And Scotty's the calm sweetheart. They dated and broke up multiple times, but life kept throwing them together. Kevin always shied away from commitment and didn't think he'd ever get married; and yet he proposed to Scotty.

Okay, I'm done blabbing :).
