A community for fans of GLBT characters on television
Welcome to queer_as_tv!

My name is bayamiod and I'm a graduate student at the University of Texas. I'm currently pursuing a M.A. in Media Studies. My current interests include how visibility and representation of queer characters on television can impact audience attitudes toward the GLBT community.

As part of a graduate school project I've opened this online community to invite discussion about gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender character visibility and representation on U.S. narrative television. Current and former shows will be featured.

If you're looking for a place to learn more about queer characters on American television then this is the place for you. Anyone interested in celebrating the increasing visibility of the GLBT community on television invited to participate. In the weeks ahead look for some of the following:

1)current storyline recaps & discussion
2)histories of queer characters of yesteryear
3)fan favorite polls
4)scholarly info regarding the impact of queer representation in media
5)discussions about stereotypes and "fair/accurate" portrayals of glbt characters

Please "join" queer_as_tv. By doing so, you are affirming that you are at least 18 years old and you are agreeing to let bayamiod use any of your comments posted here at queer_as_tv as part of her continued research and exploration into LGBT television character representation and audience reception at the University of Texas at Austin Radio/TV/Film Department. To protect your privacy, bayamiod will not directly ask you to reveal any demographic information about yourself. But, she may reference your profile as needed to make use of any demographic info you have already made public on your livejournal page. When citing any of your comments in her scholarly work bayamiod will not ask you to reveal your given name, rather she'll cite your livejournal username. You may also delete any comment you make if you decide you don't want it used in her research. You may freely join or leave the community at any time.

Thank you in advance for your active participation in queer_as_tv. YOU are going to play a huge part on how successful this project is. Feel free to contact me by leaving a comment here or at bayamiod@gmail.com
